Author Event - Tarran Jones

Our very own Tarran will be celebrating the launch of the Twice Upon A Time, An Anthology here at Collins booksellers Edwardstown, Castle Plaza Shopping Centre.

Her story 'All That Glitters' is a retake of the Brother's Grimm story 'Girl With No Hands'

We would like to invite you all to come and share this occasion with us.

Not only will you be getting Tarran's story, but there are 40 other fantastic short stories - all re-tellings of myths, legend and fables from around the world.

Fairytales don’t always happen once upon a time. Fables don’t always have a happy ending. Sometimes the stories we love are too dark for nightmares. What if waking Sleeping Beauty was the worse thing the Prince could have done? What if Rapunzel wasn’t in that tower for her own protection—but for everyone else’s?

Assembled by The Bearded Scribe Press, Twice Upon A Time combines classics and modern lore in peculiar and spectacular ways. From Rapunzel to Rumpelstiltskin, this unique collection showcases childhood favorites unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

Both traditionally-published and independent authors will take you on a whirlwind ride through fairytale and folklore, myth and majick. Cherished stories are revisited and remastered into newly-treasured tales of hope and heartache, of adversity and adventure.

Author Event - Beck Nicholas

We will be having local author Beck Nicholas in store with us to help celebrate the release of her new book 'Fake' on the 3rd of October at 1pm! We would love to see you here!

Seventeen-year-old Kath McKenny has a date to the end-of-term party with her since-forever crush. He publicly messaged her to confirm, but there’s been a recent status update: he’s taking the new girl — giggly, pretty, well-developed Lana Elliot — instead.

After being thoroughly humiliated in front of half the school, best friend Chay talks Kath into revenge: a scheme to create the perfect — and very fake — online guy for Lana. Once she falls for him, they’ll show her what it’s like to get brutally dumped.

Everything is going to plan until Kath starts spending more-than-just-friends time with the other new kid in town — Lana’s dreamy older brother, Sebastian. Kath finds herself getting in deep — in love and drowning in guilt, she tries to put an end to her prank, but it’s taken on an unstoppable momentum of its own, with very real consequences.

As her plotting begins to unravel, so do the people Kath thought she knew:
Her mother has a secret online life.
Her father has a whole new family.
Her best friend is barely recognisable.
Her boyfriend has a disturbing hidden past.
And her enemy is more familiar than she knew.

Interview with Jo Spurrier

When the lovely Jo Spurrier came into the store for a book signing, I grabbed the opportunity to ask her a few questions.

Tarran: How does it feel to have finished this series?

Jo: It is great to get to the end as I am glad to stop torturing my characters. It has been 10 years so it's sad as well, I like listening to break up songs while writing the final scenes.

Tarran: Is there going to be more books set in this world?

Jo: There is a temptation to write a book set 20 years into the future to see how the characters have changed, but I want to work on something new for now.

Tarran:What's next for you?

Jo: I have a new series in mind, but not sure when it will be all done.

Tarran: If you could spend a day in the life of anyone in history, who would it be and why?

Jo: Catherine the Great. She is just an amazing and fascinating person.

Tarran: What are you reading now?

Jo: Lots of Lynley Dodd (Hairy Maclary) as I have a new baby. Also I am reading Bill Bryson's 'Home'

Tarran: If you could pick one character from your books to have a cuppa with who would it be and why?

Jo: Nirveli. You only get snippets of her in the books but I would like to find out more about her.

Tarran: How much research went into your books?

Jo: There was an enormous amount done, a lot of it was background reading while writing my first series which never got published.

Jo's latest book 'North Star Guide Me Home' is the last in her series. It is out now and we have a limited amount of signed copies available.
